What we Wore… The 1890’s: A Look at Dressmaking in London On.
A Presentation by Mrs Maple Costuming
Join Mrs Maple Costuming, Christina van Hardeveld, in this seminar discussing fashion, dressmaking and the dressmakers of London Ontario at the end of the nineteenth century.
Through the creation of reproduction garments, based on extant pieces in Fanshawe Pioneer Village’s collection, Mrs Maple Costuming is able to share a “lived experience'“ as both a dressmaker, and wearer, while also examining historical records of the dressmaking industry in London.
Christina van Hardeveld, holds her Masters of Arts, History from Western University, and has been studying historic fashion and sewing techniques of the nineteenth, and early twentieth century for nearly a decade.
