Girl Guide Programming: Discovering Life in the 19th Century

Spend the day at Fanshawe Pioneer Village and experience the past in a unique way with your Girl Guide unit!

This interactive program lets groups work with our Education Coordinator to plan a visit that suits their group’s needs, as they learn about 19th century life. Groups can select either a half day program (2-3 activities) or a full day program (4-6 activities). Prices vary depending on length of program.

The Girl Guide Program is available from May to October and is based on staff availability. This program can be booked during museum hours on PD days, Saturdays*, Sundays *, or on a limted number of evenings in May and September. (*We not able to book programs on FPV special event days.) All dates are subject to staff availability.

Contact our Education Coordinator at education@fanshawepioneervillage.ca for more information.

During the Guide program units will be led by costumed staff through various homes and buildings, as they participate in hands-on activities and explore Canada’s past and learn a variety of heritage skills. By working with our Education Coordinator, leaders can help choose activities that meet their group’s interests and needs. Originally designed and delivered to meet the requirements of the Heritage Home Skills Badge. This program has also been delivered to meet the Heritage Badge, and the Provinicial/Territorial Heritage Badge requirements.

Check out some of our previously delivered activities:

  • Exploring the farmstead and rope making
  • Learning food traditions and baking
  • Discovering textiles through carding & spinning or weaving
  • Exploring the log house and early settler life
  • Learning 19th century pastimes and playing with parlour toys
